Design Space AlUla

In February 2022, Craft completed construction works on an iconic building in the heart of Al Jadidah district, poised to become an Art and Design Gallery. This architectural marvel, designed by the esteemed Italian architect studio Giò Forma, houses two distinct yet interconnected projects under one roof.

In 2023, Craft was honored to be awarded the complete design and build of the interior and exhibition fit out for Design Space AlUla, along with curating the inaugural exhibition, Mawrid. Celebrating the inspired design of AlUla, this endeavor was a collaborative effort with Berlin-based Atelier Brückner. The objective was to establish a dynamic design studio on the first floor, fostering collaboration among designers and hosting workshops, while creating a holistic exhibition on AlUla-inspired design on the ground floor.

Craft facilitated every aspect of the design process, from hosting and supporting the initial design phases to procuring materials and equipment, in-house fabrication of fit-out and furniture, and the installation and commissioning of graphics, audiovisual equipment, and mounts for objects. Additionally, Craft developed and programmed the audiovisual content for the exhibition, including film and soundscape production, while ensuring seamless integration of graphic illustrations and texts, including Arabic translations and copywriting, in line with the graphic design guidelines.

With a focus on revitalizing the building’s interior finishes and meticulous deep cleaning, Craft proudly handed over Design Space AlUla to the Royal Commission of AlUla on February 6th, well within the deadline and budgetary constraints. Following a week of comprehensive tryouts, testing, and detailed snagging, the inaugural exhibition Mawrid was ready to welcome the public on February 15th.
