The Teaching Tree, Muhannad Shono

Unveiling ‘The Teaching Tree’ at La Biennale Di Venezia

For the 59th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale Di Venezia, we were involved in the fabrication and installation of Muhannad Shono’s extraordinary 40-meter artwork for the Saudi Arabian Pavillion.

The large-scale sculptural installation is titled ‘The Teaching Tree,’ spans the entire pavilion, and is a projection of Saudi Arabia’s growth and prosperity in the art scene. Shono’s dynamic piece comes alive through the use of pneumatics, movement, and palm trees.

To realize the artist’s vision, the process began months before the event. We built the structure’s skeleton out of metal that is designed to support over 10,000 palms which were handpicked, dried, and painted black.

We love championing creatives that our shaping our national art scene. Shono’s participation at the Biennale is paving the way for Saudi artists.
